Clermont Auvergne University implements an international strategy that is both ambitious and cross-cutting across the University's missions. This strategy is designed for the long term and addresses global challenges, particularly those related to sustainable development.

The international strategy is led by the Vice President for International and European Strategy at Clermont Auvergne University, Marie-?lisabeth BAUDOIN, and is embedded in the institution's overall project.

Three main pillars guide the international strategy of Clermont Auvergne University:

Axis N°1 : Europe
The first objective is to equip Clermont Auvergne University (UCA) with a strong European dimension by building and coordinating a European university network. This network brings together universities that uphold European values, are committed to serving students and society, and are engaged in sustainable development.

         1) ARTEMIS European University:
To this end, Clermont Auvergne University serves as the coordinating institution for the ARTEMIS European University — Alliance for Regional Transition, Equality, Mobility, Inclusion, and Sustainability. Since 2018, and with a funding granted by the European Commission in 2024, the University has brought together seven partner universities. These include four comprehensive universities (Clermont Auvergne University, France; University of Ioannina, Greece; Università degli Studi di Perugia, Italy; Ovidius University of Constan?a, Romania) and four universities of applied sciences (Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg, Germany; VIVES University of Applied Sciences, Belgium; TTK University of Applied Sciences, Estonia; Western Norway University of Applied Sciences, Norway).

United by a shared goal, they aim to become a European hub for regional development through mobility in all its dimensions. By establishing a model of strengthened and innovative international cooperation, the European University seeks to lay the foundation for the university of tomorrow, ready to train future decision-makers to tackle the challenges of sustainable mobility in ever-evolving territories.

          2) Developing strategic partnerships in Europe:

To enhance its European dimension, Clermont Auvergne University aims to develop strategic partnerships with European institutions with strong and dynamic collaborative ties. A strategic partnership has already been signed with the Universit?t Regensburg (Germany), paving the way for future collaborations.

          3) Strengthening the development of European projects:

To increase the visibility of UCA and the Clermont Auvergne site at both the European and international levels, while boosting its attractiveness and influence, Clermont Auvergne University seeks to enhance support for the development of European projects.

Axis N°2 : Promoting expertise in sustainable development

Clermont Auvergne University is recognized for its expertise in disaster risk management and associated vulnerabilities, international economic development, and global sustainable development issues. According to the UN definition, sustainable development encompasses challenges such as climate, biodiversity, energy, water, as well as poverty, peace, education, agriculture, human rights, and health.

UCA intends to strengthen its international reputation by leveraging this expertise, through the training of students, international executives, and future decision-makers committed to human and sustainable development.

Axis N°3 : Integration into territorial networks for international cooperation

Due to its geographic location and history — surrounded by the Auvergne volcanoes in a mid-mountain region — Clermont Auvergne University is deeply rooted in its territory. UCA not only contributes to the international outreach of its ecosystem but also benefits from its integration into territorial networks for international cooperation. This dynamic has a dual objective: to foster socio-economic benefits and knowledge transfer on the one hand, and, through a ripple effect, to strengthen the international employability of its students on the other.
