Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of molecular biology and genetics

Goals

Knowledge of the main mechanisms of regulation of gene expression: transcriptional, post-transcriptional, translational and post-translational regulation mechanisms.

Content

Lectures:
? Transcriptional control: eukaryotic transcription, transcription factors and their mode of action, chromatin and gene expression, euchromatic boundary regions, methylation and gene expression.
? Post-transcriptional control at the mRNA level: message stability, regulation by alternative splicing, editing.
? Translational control: external and internal initiation mechanisms, regulatory strategies.
? Post-translational control: protein conformation control, protein modification, protein localization, protein degradation.
Tutorials:
? Analysis of scientific articles related to the course, with student presentations.
