Content

This course provides advanced knowledge in nutrition, locomotor function, and their interrelationships with chronic diseases. It addresses the mechanisms underlying dysmobility, its causes, and its consequences for patients, integrating concepts from nutrition science, physiology, and clinical research.

EC1: Diet, Nutrition, Locomotor Activity and Chronic Metabolic Diseases
? Common mechanisms of chronic disease-related dysmobility: inflammation, oxidative stress, insulin resistance, anabolic resistance, energy homeostasis.
? Mobility limitations and their association with nutrition in type 2 diabetes, obesity, cancer, rheumatoid diseases, sarcopenia, osteoporosis, liver diseases (steatosis).
EC2: Diet, Nutrition, Locomotor Activity and Chronic Organ Diseases
? Assessment of mobility in patients with chronic diseases: methods and rationale.
? Main techniques for functional mobility evaluation: gait, balance, mobility indexes (SPPB, hand grip), mobility measures.
? Interest and limitations of mobility assessment; links with morbidity and mortality.
? Biomarkers of dysmobility.
? Mobility limitations and their association with nutrition in cardiac failure, stroke, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease, pulmonary diseases (COPD), inflammatory bowel diseases, neurodegenerative diseases.
